I think that the most effective prewriting process would be to use a combination of listing and journaling. i think getting your ideas out on paper quickly is important so i would first use listing just to get my ideas out. Then i would read over my list and journal about the things i have written down to include a few more details and so that if i stop and come back i can remember why i put those things down on the list. If i had to choose one of the two though i would probably choose journaling. because in a journal you can include all of the things that are in your list and then you can write more on those things. getting a hardcopy of ideas out before you begin your long essay, article, or assignment is very important. i hate when i have something to write later and have a lot of great ideas and then forget what those ideas are when i actually go to write it. your list or journal doesnt have to be well organized so that everyone can understand it. as long as you understand the ideas you have and will remember what your writing about than everything is fine.
